IIn Support of Our Talented Youths

There is no doubt that our nation is blessed with talented youths. The doubt is how can these talents be explored to bring out the very finest of our youths?

We need to start do things differently and result oriented. We need to build facilities for trainings, have support systems for talent and glorify our greats.

We've just seen what our youths can do in Tokyo Olympics. Theirs showcases were unheard of and equally unimaginable. For the first time Gambia been represented in the world state in numbers (4 athletes for sprinting & swimming). If that isn't worth of celebrating what would have? And if that hasn't inspired and motivated what would? The rest lies on us, the Gambian people. It's about time to prioritize things that would sell our national identity. Instead of wasteful spending on things that matter less, we should be spending on things that matter most.

Although, we started to see progress in efforts of our govt and goodwill ambassadors demonstrating tokens of appreciation for our Olympians - Gina, Ebrima Camara, Ebrima Buaro, etc. but we still need to do more creating training facilities, paying for training materials and help in transportation and other athletics related expenses. There should be special budget allocated for sports both local and international level.

We begin to also notice how some of our back-way travellers are making tremendous progress in soccer and other sports and are getting up with good teams in Europe. This shows we have talents but these talents could just not be cultivated in our soils because of lack of resources, support and good will for sports.

Our govt, our good citizens and good Samaritans must put heads together to help identify and bring out the talents of our youths before these talents turn to wastes that we could never recover.
